Dive Buddies

During our time in Koh Lanta, Thailand, we completed our Divemaster training. It’s a pretty tough course where you’re diving almost everyday, helping with the dive business, assisting instructors and eventually guiding your own customers.

I wish I’d taken more pictures of the people we met but the course was intensive and most days, all thoughts of creativity were quite a long way from my mind! It’s a shame because we met some real characters and some wonderful people. A couple of days in and I realised quite how sheltered my previous working life had been. In my old role, I had a degree of respect and seniority in a very open-minded, left leaning working culture. Suffice to say, this was not the culture we walked in to, but then, why should it have been?

I learnt quite a lot about myself during those three months. It gave me a different perspective on myself, who I thought I was and what I was prepared to tolerate. Not everything was positive, but maybe that was the point. I didn’t start Life Part Five thinking everything would be plain sailing.
